Best Credit Card for Heathrow Lounge Access in 2026
Looking for a credit card that opens an airport lounge at London Heathrow (LHR)? Start with your departure terminal , not a card advertisement. The American Express Platinum Card, Capital One Venture X and Chase Sapphire Reserve can provide different lounge options, guest terms and annual costs. None guarantees admission when a lounge is full, and a card’s lounge membership does not let you freely use another terminal.
Which credit card is best for Heathrow lounge access?
For a solo U.S. traveler who can use its benefits, Capital One Venture X is a lower-annual-fee route to participating Priority Pass lounges. Chase Sapphire Reserve may suit travelers who frequently bring one or two companions because its Priority Pass Select membership currently includes two guests per visit at participating lounges. The U.S. Amex Platinum stands out for access to the Centurion Lounge at Terminal 3 plus enrolled Priority Pass access. These are conditional recommendations—not guarantees of entry or a reason to pay an annual fee for one Heathrow visit.
At Terminal 5, check the Club Aspire refurbishment notice below. The Priority Pass directory also lists Plaza Premium T5, so do not assume Club Aspire is the terminal’s only card-accessible lounge.
JetKonnect may earn a commission if you apply and are approved through our links. This does not change our editorial recommendations.
All examples below refer to the U.S. consumer versions of the cards unless noted. Enroll in Priority Pass where required, check the exact lounge in your issuer-linked membership, and confirm guest fees and departure-terminal restrictions. Lounge operators may limit admission, charge for reservations or change hours.
Heathrow lounge access by terminal: where your card can work
The table shows current Priority Pass directory listings , not a promise that every issuer-issued membership will include every location. A separate Amex Centurion Lounge operates in T3 under its own entry rules. Some directory listings are arrivals-side or restaurant benefits; they should not be mistaken for a standard departures lounge.
| Terminal | Priority Pass directory options | Other card-related access | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| T2 | No1 Lounge; Plaza Premium Lounge | Some airline-specific cards or memberships may grant separate airline lounge access | Confirm departure area, boarding pass and maximum stay |
| T3 | No1 Lounge; My Lounge; Clubrooms (extra fee); Plaza Premium Arrivals listing | Amex Centurion Lounge for eligible Platinum cardmembers | Do not treat the arrivals lounge as a departures fallback; check extra charges |
| T4 | Plaza Premium Lounge; Blush Lounge by Plaza Premium Group | Eligible issuer memberships may offer other network access | Check current partner eligibility and capacity |
| T5 | Plaza Premium Lounge; Club Aspire (scheduled refurbishment) | BA Galleries requires separate airline status/cabin eligibility, not ordinary Priority Pass access | Confirm Club Aspire closure and available alternatives before leaving home |

Terminal 5 Club Aspire: conflicting closure dates
As checked on October 21, 2026, Priority Pass lists a closure from November 2, 2026, through April 16, 2027 . However, the lounge operator says it will close on November 16, 2026 for refurbishment and rebranding as a No1 Lounge. These dates conflict. Do not rely on Club Aspire for a T5 departure during the affected period without direct confirmation.
The Priority Pass directory separately lists Plaza Premium Lounge at T5 ; verify your card-linked membership can access it, its operating hours and space availability. If not, use a terminal restaurant rather than attempting to change terminals.
Venture X vs Chase Sapphire Reserve vs Amex Platinum
| Feature | Capital One Venture X | Chase Sapphire Reserve | Amex Platinum |
|---|---|---|---|
| Published annual fee | $395 | $795 | $895 |
| Priority Pass | Enrollment required for eligible primary cardholder | Priority Pass Select included; check activation | Priority Pass enrollment required |
| Priority Pass guest rule | $35 per guest per visit for primary cardholder | Two guests included; additional guests incur a charge | Check enrolled membership and current Amex terms for your location |
| Distinctive Heathrow access | Participating Priority Pass locations | Participating Priority Pass locations | Centurion Lounge T3 plus participating Priority Pass locations |
| Travel credits | $300 annual Capital One Travel credit; booking restrictions apply | $300 annual travel credit; verify eligible charges | Multiple category-specific credits; terms and usage limits apply |
| Best-fit traveler | Frequent solo traveler already using Capital One Travel | Frequent traveler who values included PP guests and other CSR benefits | Traveler who uses Centurion and other Amex benefits enough to justify fee |
Do not compare cards by simply subtracting a travel credit from the annual fee. A $300 credit is worth $300 to you only if you would otherwise make eligible purchases on the required terms. Lounge access is also just one of many card features; interest costs and other fees can outweigh travel benefits.
Capital One Venture X
Its $395 published annual fee is lower than the other two cards here. It may be a practical choice if you already use Capital One Travel and can enroll in Priority Pass. Companions cost extra.
Check Venture X terms & offer →Chase Sapphire Reserve
Two Priority Pass guests are currently included per visit, subject to the lounge’s own rules. That can be useful for families, but the much higher annual fee needs broader justification.
Check Sapphire Reserve terms & offer →American Express Platinum
Access to the T3 Centurion Lounge can make this card attractive if you fly from T3 and use Amex benefits elsewhere. Guests generally cost extra unless a qualifying complimentary-guest benefit applies.
Check Amex Platinum terms & offer →Consider not opening a card
For one trip, compare the price of a direct lounge booking, terminal dining, or your existing card benefits. A new premium card may be poor value if Heathrow access is your only reason to apply.
See Heathrow lounge guide →Which card should you use for your Heathrow trip?
Flying from Terminal 2
Start with the No1 Lounge and Plaza Premium T2 listings in Priority Pass. The best card is the one whose specific enrolled membership includes your preferred lounge. If you have an airline-specific lounge entitlement, compare it separately. Do not assume a United-branded card automatically grants entry to a particular Heathrow lounge without checking United’s current club and partner-lounge rules.
Flying from Terminal 3
Amex Platinum has a meaningful difference here: eligible cardmembers can use the Centurion Lounge, subject to access timing and capacity rules. Priority Pass offers alternatives such as No1 Lounge and My Lounge. The T3 Plaza Premium listing in the directory is an arrivals facility; do not rely on it as a pre-departure option. Neither Centurion nor a Priority Pass lounge guarantees a seat.
Flying from Terminal 4
Priority Pass currently lists Plaza Premium and Blush Lounge in T4. Compare the participating lounges shown in your own membership and check opening hours before travel. A card’s U.S. brand does not by itself determine whether a specific Heathrow partner will admit you.
Flying British Airways from Terminal 5
For an economy departure without BA status, an eligible Priority Pass membership may help with participating T5 lounges. However, Club Aspire’s 2026–27 refurbishment changes the picture. Check the Plaza Premium T5 listing and the operator’s current conditions. A regular credit card with Priority Pass does not confer BA Galleries access. The Centurion Lounge in T3 is not a sensible fallback for a T5 departure.
The best Heathrow lounge card is often the card you already hold. A premium card is not automatically worth opening because it offers a lounge at one airport. Your terminal, annual number of lounge visits, companions, card enrollment and ability to use credits determine the value. A paid lounge visit or a good meal may cost far less than a new annual fee.
How companion fees change the decision
Consider a simple illustrative case: one eligible Venture X primary cardholder visiting a participating Priority Pass lounge with two adult guests. At the currently published $35 per guest per visit , the guest charge would be $70 for that visit , assuming both guests are admitted. Four comparable visits could generate $280 in guest charges. Chase Sapphire Reserve currently includes two Priority Pass guests per visit, subject to lounge conditions, but its annual fee is $400 higher than Venture X. Guest fees alone therefore do not establish which card is better.
For the Amex Centurion Lounge, standard U.S. Platinum guest charges are generally $50 per adult and $30 for children ages 2–17 , unless eligible complimentary-guest access applies. Centurion guests must meet the same-flight and other entry rules. Review the official Amex terms before budgeting.
Checklist: how to avoid being turned away
- Confirm your terminal: Heathrow’s active terminals are T2, T3, T4 and T5. Do not plan lounge visits in another terminal without an authorized itinerary and sufficient time.
- Activate the benefit: Enroll in Priority Pass where your issuer requires it; allow time for your digital membership to become usable.
- Check your actual membership: Search for LHR in the Priority Pass app or issuer benefits portal and open the individual lounge entry.
- Read restrictions: Look for airside versus landside location, operating hours, stay limits, guest limits, premium surcharges and closures.
- Bring required credentials: Have your valid membership/card, same-day boarding pass and identification where required.
- Allow for capacity: A participating lounge can still restrict entry. Pre-booking, when offered, may cost extra and may not be available through all programs.
What changed in 2026?
Venture X: Capital One now publishes a $35 per-guest Priority Pass visit charge for primary cardholders. Eligible additional-cardholder lounge access has its own $125 annual access fee; Venture X Business policies differ from consumer Venture X.
Centurion guest rules: American Express publishes same-flight requirements for guests, as well as a three-hour-before-departure rule for standard entry, with specified exceptions. Check the latest terms.
T5: Club Aspire’s operator and Priority Pass currently publish different November 2026 closure dates; treat the lounge as uncertain during the refurbishment window.
Best backup plan when your lounge is full or closed
- T2: Check the other currently listed Priority Pass lounge in the same terminal, subject to your membership and capacity.
- T3: If Centurion is unavailable, check No1 or My Lounge under your enrolled Priority Pass membership. Do not confuse the arrivals-side Plaza Premium listing with a departures lounge.
- T4: Compare the current Plaza Premium and Blush listings; do not assume both are included in every membership.
- T5: During Club Aspire’s refurbishment, check Plaza Premium T5 eligibility. If no lounge is accessible, choose a terminal restaurant and preserve your boarding time. See where to eat at Heathrow .

Frequently asked questions
What is the best credit card for Heathrow lounge access?
There is no single best card for every traveler. Venture X has a lower published annual fee and participating Priority Pass access for an enrolled eligible primary cardholder. Chase Sapphire Reserve currently includes two Priority Pass guests. Amex Platinum additionally offers Centurion Lounge access at Terminal 3. Your terminal and travel frequency matter.
Does Amex Platinum get you into Heathrow lounges?
Eligible U.S. Platinum cardmembers can access the Centurion Lounge in Terminal 3 under Amex’s entry rules. After enrollment, they can also use participating Priority Pass lounges, subject to the membership, lounge location, operating hours and capacity. Centurion guest rules differ from Priority Pass guest rules.
Does Venture X include free Priority Pass guests in 2026?
Capital One currently states that Venture X primary cardholders pay $35 per guest per Priority Pass lounge visit. The cardholder must enroll in Priority Pass. The Venture X Business card has different guest policies, and eligible additional cardholders have separate lounge access terms.
Does Chase Sapphire Reserve include Priority Pass restaurants?
Do not count on restaurant credits through the standard U.S. consumer Sapphire Reserve Priority Pass benefit. The card’s Priority Pass lounge membership is different from participating dining credits or other non-lounge experiences. Check your Chase membership terms before assuming a restaurant bill will be covered.
Can I use Priority Pass at Heathrow Terminal 5?
The Priority Pass directory lists Club Aspire and Plaza Premium in Terminal 5. Club Aspire is scheduled for refurbishment and rebranding, with conflicting November 2026 closure dates between the operator and Priority Pass. Check your own membership’s current T5 options and confirm access before your flight.
Can a credit card get me into BA Galleries lounges?
Ordinary Priority Pass membership does not provide BA Galleries access. British Airways lounge entry depends on qualifying travel cabin, airline status and other airline-specific eligibility. Check British Airways’ official lounge rules rather than relying on a general-purpose travel credit card.
Do I need to reserve a Heathrow Priority Pass lounge?
Reservations are not universally required, but some Heathrow lounges recommend pre-booking and may charge an extra fee. Access can be restricted when a lounge is full. Check the individual lounge page, the availability of pre-booking for your membership and the airport’s boarding requirements.
Is it worth opening a premium card for one Heathrow trip?
Often not. Compare the full annual fee with what you would realistically spend on a lounge visit, food or existing travel benefits. Also consider enrollment timing, lounge availability, guest fees and whether you would use the card’s other benefits throughout the year.
