Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) Guide 2026: Terminals, Lounges, Jewel & Transfers

Singapore Changi Airport is much more than a place to change planes. This guide explains how to move between its four terminals, when you can visit Jewel, how lounge access works, and what to plan for food, hotels and city transport.

Important distinction

Airside access, security screening and entry to Singapore are different things

You may be able to travel within the transit area between T1, T2 and T3 without passing through Singapore immigration. That does not mean you can skip any security checks required at your departure gate. Visiting landside attractions such as Jewel is a different journey and may require immigration clearance.

Find Your Terminal

Singapore Changi Airport terminals explained

Terminal 1

Part of the interconnected T1–T3 airport complex. Useful for many international departures and transit-area connections; check the current terminal map for facilities.

Terminal 2

Connected to the wider transit area and served by airline and third-party lounge options. Verify any lounge’s exact location and access conditions.

Terminal 3

A major international terminal with transit amenities and Singapore Airlines facilities. Airline lounge access is not the same as Priority Pass access.

Terminal 4: plan a shuttle transfer

T4 is separate from the main T1–T3 cluster. If you are connecting to or from T4, follow Changi’s current transfer instructions and allow time for the shuttle, wayfinding and boarding. Eligibility for an airside transfer depends on your journey and travel documents.

Airlines may change terminal assignments. Confirm your actual flight rather than treating any airline list as permanent.

Connections

How do you transfer between Changi terminals?

Terminal transfer planning, without assuming fixed travel times
Your connectionTypical approachImportant check
T1 ↔ T2 ↔ T3Transit-area walking routes and SkytrainService hours, route and gate screening
Any T1–T3 ↔ T4Designated terminal shuttle arrangementTransit eligibility, shuttle location and boarding time
Transit area ↔ JewelExit to the public/landside areaSingapore entry eligibility and time to return
Separate-ticket connectionMay involve baggage collection and new check-inImmigration, baggage rules and security
Do not confuse airside connectivity with no security screening. Changi uses gate or departure-area screening arrangements that can require security checks before boarding. Follow signs and instructions for your gate.

If you are arriving internationally on separate tickets, check whether your baggage is through-checked and whether you are eligible to remain in transit. See our Changi layover and connection guide.

Lounge Overview

Which lounges can you use at Singapore Changi?

Changi offers a mixture of airline-operated and third-party lounges. The right choice depends on your departure terminal, boarding time, ticket class, elite status and membership program. This airport hub summarizes access types; our dedicated Singapore Changi lounge guide handles lounge-by-lounge comparisons.

Understanding lounge access at SIN
Lounge typeHow access usually worksBefore visiting
SATS Premier and other third-party loungesMay participate in Priority Pass or other paid-access programsConfirm the specific location and current directory listing
Plaza Premium and other independent loungesAccess depends on facility, membership, card issuer or paid admissionDo not assume every branch participates in Priority Pass
Singapore Airlines SilverKrisEligible premium-cabin and other specifically qualified travelersCheck cabin, itinerary and operator rules
Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer GoldEligible frequent-flyer and Star Alliance status passengersNot interchangeable with SilverKris Business Class access
Other airline loungesTicket class, alliance status or specific invitationCheck airline rules and current opening status
Common access mistake

Star Alliance Gold is not a universal SilverKris Business Class pass at Changi. Singapore Airlines distinguishes SilverKris Lounges from KrisFlyer Gold Lounges. Check the airline’s published lounge eligibility table rather than assuming a premium credit card or elite tier works everywhere.

Cardholder Planning

Does Priority Pass work at Singapore Changi Airport?

Yes, at participating locations. But the number of eligible lounges, their terminals, guest policies and admission windows can change. An individual lounge’s participation also depends on the exact membership program and, sometimes, your card issuer.

What to check in the Priority Pass app

  • Specific terminal and lounge name
  • Operating hours and maximum stay
  • Guest allowance and fees
  • Entry restrictions and capacity limits
  • Whether the facility is a lounge or a different experience

What not to assume

  • Every Plaza Premium lounge accepts Priority Pass
  • Priority Pass includes SilverKris access
  • Your card covers restaurant credits
  • A lounge in another terminal is practical for a short connection
  • Guest access is free on every membership

Check the Priority Pass Singapore Changi guide and your issuer’s benefit terms. For card selection, see best credit card for SIN lounge access. Changi should not be described as having a Centurion Lounge, Capital One Lounge or Chase Sapphire Lounge without a current operator listing.

Airport Attraction

Can you visit Jewel Changi Airport during a layover?

Jewel is landside, not inside the secure international transit area. Its shops, restaurants and well-known indoor attractions can be a highlight of a long Changi stop, but transit passengers generally must enter Singapore to visit.

Jewel visit decision checklist

  • Can you legally enter Singapore on your passport and itinerary?
  • Will you need to collect and recheck baggage?
  • How long will immigration, walking and return screening take?
  • What time does your next flight begin boarding?
  • Are the attractions you want open during your layover?

For a short connection, remaining airside is usually the simpler plan. Check Jewel’s official website for attractions, ticketing and opening hours, and Singapore ICA for entry requirements.

Food & Shopping

Where should you eat and shop at Changi?

Choose food near your actual gate when you have a short connection. For a longer wait, explore the dining and retail options in your transit terminal; landside choices such as Jewel require additional planning. Restaurant opening hours and menus change, so a fixed list can become stale quickly.

Short connection

Prioritize an outlet near your gate and check whether food can be taken through any remaining security screening.

Longer layover

Compare food courts, sit-down dining and lounge meals. Check dietary needs, operating hours and the time needed to return to your gate.

Into Singapore

How do you get from Changi Airport to the city?

Public busBudget-focused travelers with flexible schedulesRoute, stops, luggage policies and last service
TaxiFamilies, heavy luggage or direct hotel tripsTaxi queue, applicable surcharges and traffic

Do not rely on a single published journey time or price. Routes and charges vary. Use Changi Airport’s ground transport guidance and Singapore’s Land Transport Authority for current information.

Rest & Connections

What should you do during a long or overnight Changi layover?

Short connection

Find your next gate, check screening arrangements and keep your activities within the transit area.

Several hours airside

Consider a participating lounge, a meal, shopping or a rest area. Leave enough time for terminal transfers and boarding.

Long daytime layover

Jewel or a city visit may be possible if you meet entry requirements and have sufficient time for the full return journey.

Overnight layover

Compare airside transit hotels with landside airport hotels. Check immigration eligibility, room availability and terminal access.

See hotels near Singapore Changi and our Singapore Changi layover guide for trip-specific planning.

Family & Accessible Travel

Is Changi Airport convenient for families and travelers needing assistance?

Changi provides family and accessibility facilities, but the nearest suitable room or service depends on your terminal and gate. Check the official map for baby-care rooms, accessible restrooms, lifts and assistance points rather than assuming an amenity is available in every concourse.

Families with strollers and travelers with mobility needs should allow additional time for T4 shuttle connections and longer walks. Contact your airline in advance if you require wheelchair or special assistance. Our Changi with kids guide covers family-specific planning.

Before You Travel

Three checks that prevent most Changi surprises

Start with your flight, then choose amenities that fit your time.

1

Confirm terminals

Check both arrival and departure terminals, including any T4 shuttle.

2

Check entry rules

Know whether your plan requires Singapore immigration or baggage collection.

3

Verify access

Check lounge membership, operating hours and boarding deadlines.

Common Questions

Singapore Changi Airport FAQs

Are Singapore Changi Airport terminals connected airside?

Terminals 1, 2 and 3 have transit-area connections by walking routes and Skytrain, subject to operating arrangements. Terminal 4 uses a separate transfer shuttle arrangement. Follow your airline and airport transfer instructions; security screening can still take place before boarding.

Can I visit Jewel Changi Airport during a layover?

Jewel is a landside complex. Transit passengers generally need to enter Singapore through immigration to visit it, so eligibility to enter Singapore, baggage arrangements and connection time matter. Do not treat Jewel as an airside transit attraction.

Does Priority Pass work at Changi Airport?

Priority Pass has participating facilities at Singapore Changi, but lounge participation, hours, terminal locations and guest rules can change. Check the live Priority Pass directory and the benefits attached to your particular card.

Is there an American Express Centurion Lounge at Changi?

Changi is not listed as a Centurion Lounge location in the airport guide reviewed here. Check the American Express lounge finder for the latest network information; eligible cards may provide access to third-party participating lounges.

Can Star Alliance Gold passengers use the SilverKris Business Class Lounge?

Star Alliance Gold status alone does not generally provide SilverKris Business Class Lounge access at Changi. Singapore Airlines operates separate KrisFlyer Gold Lounges for eligible status passengers. Confirm ticket, membership and guest eligibility with Singapore Airlines.

How do I transfer between Terminal 4 and other Changi terminals?

Terminal 4 is physically separate from the T1–T3 cluster. Eligible transit passengers use the airport transfer shuttle under current arrangements; landside transfers may differ. Check the airport transfer guidance, departure terminal and shuttle schedule before traveling.

Is security screening at Changi done before the gate?

Security procedures depend on terminal, gate and itinerary. At Changi, security screening may take place at or near departure gate holding rooms. Airside terminal access does not guarantee that you will avoid another screening before boarding.

How do I get from Changi Airport to central Singapore?

Common options include the MRT rail network, public buses, taxis and booked ground transport. Travel time and cost depend on destination, terminal, service hours and traffic. Check official airport transport information and transit operator schedules.

Can I sleep at Singapore Changi Airport?

Changi has transit and nearby hotel options as well as airport seating and rest areas. Availability, entry eligibility and overnight access depend on location and booking. For a long layover, compare airside transit hotels with landside accommodation.

How much time should I allow for a Changi connection?

There is no single safe connection time for every itinerary. Check the airline-issued minimum connection time, terminal transfer, baggage through-check, immigration requirements and boarding cutoff. Separate tickets often require more time.

Are Changi airport lounges free with a premium credit card?

Some cards provide access through Priority Pass or other programs, but admission is conditional on enrollment, participating location, guest policy, capacity and eligible itinerary. A premium card does not automatically admit you to Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounges.

Which terminal does Singapore Airlines use at Changi?

Singapore Airlines flights can use different Changi terminals depending on route and operational assignments. Confirm your flight terminal and gate using your booking and official airport departure information rather than relying on a fixed airline-to-terminal table.
